The future of
Main theme of the festival
Leading Voices presents a programme around the skills a conductor or vocal leader needs today. Aimed at all generations and skill levels, it supports conductors, vocal leaders, composers, creators, music teacher, vocal coaches, managers, artistic leaders or students in these fields to actively explore, experience, and discuss the expansion and future of choral music.
We strive to inspire you to explore new ways to enrich and strengthen the possibilities of choral music and to make sure choral music stays relevant from both an artistic, social and gettable point of view. All genres are included in the event.
The event will be connected with other choral music events in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and Europe more widely.
The programme will cover 5 days: a day of arrival with an official opening in the evening, three full days of programme and a day of departure. Part of the programma will be available online.
The programme is embedded in the Utrecht Zingt festival (27-31 July) that also offers low key concert opportunities for choirs from abroad.
Utrecht is home of the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Dekoor Close Harmony, Netherlands Student Chamber Choir, Kurt Thomas Course and many other choirs and vocal organisations from the Netherlands. In 2009, Utrecht was hosting the EUROPA CANTAT festival, so maybe you’ve visited this medieval city before?
With over 100 churches, the state of the art concert venue TivoliVredenburg and the Conservatory only a few footsteps away from each other, Utrecht is the perfect place to house a festival. The city is easy to reach, with a 30 min. direct train from Schiphol Airport (AMS).
Leading Voices is part of the project Training Leading Voices, coordinated by ZIMIHC and co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
The Dutch choral organisation Koornetwerk Nederland is partner of Leading Voices and connected to the event as Legacy Officer to create a sustainable impact for choir conducters and vocal leaders in the Netherlands.
